RAIN Network & Camp Internet
Ocean Studies Web

Exploring the unique potential of Internet technology, RAIN has brought together many public and community agencies for productive information exchange.

Two Consortia have formed around work underway by RAIN Network.
CIRGIS is the Channel Islands Regional GIS consortium. Bringing together state, federal, regional government and both the University of California and local colleges.
Recently awarded a GIS clearinghouse grant by NGDC, CIRGIS provides a source of Science, Math and GIS studies resources useful by Camp classes from 4th grade through High School.

MERA - the Marine Educators Regional Alliance - represents the comming together of over 50 Marine Science and Environmental Management agencies representing both Federal, State, Regional and Community resources.

The Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary, the American Occeans Campaign, the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History and Sea Center, and many, many more, represent an important model of multi-agency Information gathered together for use by the Public.

A core objective of the project is to highlight the importance of the 'community sector' in the acquisition and application of new data.

Count, the International Coastal Clean Up Day September 20, the El Niño Watch and the Year of the Ocean 1998 were primary components of this resource web last year. As we move towards the year 2000 RAIN has begun a series of projects designed to gather digital video and audio information on all our resource agencies, create a central, Internet based clearinghouse for that multi-media content and encourage increased public awareness of and work with Agencies involved in environmental management or conservation through the use of multi-media Internet content.

Continual growth in agency participation and new technology design applications make this site dynamic, changing continually. Visit often.
