Distance Learning Project Live Field Trip OptionsAfterschool programs with the ability to raise the funds to transport students to Santa Barbara or Los Angeles, California have the option of participating in a culminating live field trip Expedition out to one of the Channel Islands. Classrooms in the greater Los Angeles and inland high desert area are invited to join the Camp for an Expedition out to Santa Catalina Island/ Classrooms in the Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo County areas are invited to join the Camp for an Expedition out to Santa Cruz Island. Visitors from other regions can select either program to participate in. These trips are currently being scheduled for the tentative period of the first two weeks of June. Activities on Santa Catalina include visits to historical, environmental and science museums and education centers for hands-on learning about the Channel Islands. Students will be asked to a participate in Internet text, audio, or video broadcasts live from the Islands - sharing their immediate experiences with classrooms nationwide. Program leaders, school teachers, and parent chaperones will be invited to attend with each group; each activity will be lead by experience museum or science center staff. Cost for participation is $100 per person, plus transportation and food to and from port.
