![]() Camp Internet Science Expedition Briefing
Channel Island PlantsThis week we are loading a new library of resources onto the Camp web site that focus on the special plant communities that live on the Channel Islands. Topics include Ancient plant fossils, Native plants, Endemic plants ONLY found on the Channel Islands, Endangered plants, Native American uses for plants, and Poisonous plants. Images will be added to the library each day, so keep a look out. Interactive activities will also be added through out the week.
Smithsonian Award Online
The Camp's Smithsonian Innovation Network Award is now available for viewing off the Smithsonian web site, and linked from the Camp and RAIN main pages. The paper prepared is a collaborative effort between North Verdemont School and the Camp, and features quotes or case studies from San Bernardino and Riverside county schools and teachers. Please enjoy this special honor with us - you are all a part of this unexpected surprise and recognition for the Camp's efforts in its first pilot year.
National Park Ranger Visits
This week, Carol Peterson from the Channel Islands National Park has arranged to visit six of our Camp classrooms. She will be presenting information about marine mammals that live in or visit the Channel waters. We ask each classroom where she visits to be recording the student's learning experiences in the Camp Chat Room as project reporters - letting classrooms all over the world learn about the ranger's visit. By the end of the week, there should be a nice series of student reports that we can then post online as permanent record. Please have each student - or student team - identify their names, grade, and school in their message, and then make their report. San Diego Technology in the School Conference
On April 29th and 30th, Camp Internet will be participating in a national Technology Funding for Schools conference in San Diego, and will report back in the next briefing what we have learned for our classrooms benefit. Presenters include US Dept. of Education, National Science Foundation and fellow Technology Literacy Grant recipients. Stay tuned !
CUE is coming right up !
Be sure to send us the student's work that we can feature at CUE no later than this Friday the 30th. Email files to rain@rain.org, or mail drawings / photographs to Camp Internet 1129 State A6 Santa Barbara CA 93101. The Computer Using Educators conference is being held in Palm Springs the 6th-8th of May, and will be visited by teachers from all over the world. We will be having a booth, and want to share student work with the visitors, so please send us materials to add to the student gallery, which is one of the most popular aspects of the Camp site.
