![]() Camp Internet Science Briefing - Closing Expeditions V and VIEarth Sciences and Ecology New TREASURE HUNT Activity this week ! This week we are introducing a new online activity that we ask every class to take part in any day, at any time. We are opening the Camp Chat Room as a special group Treasure Hunt that you can do anytime this week with your students - from one computer or in a lab. We continue to experiment with new applications for the technology, and this Treasure Hunt should be exciting in that it will take kids all over the Internet and to new areas of the Camp web, in a guided manner, to visit interesting sites, and report back with their findings right in the chat room. ( they just click on the word <button> imbedded in the question, and then when they find the answer, they use the back button to return to the chat room and post their findings. At the end of the week, we will then post the answers to the questions, so have the kids check back to see if they got the answers right - and - to see everyone else's answers! And we will soon be sending you the answers to Expeditions V and VI so you can get their Passports reviewed, and issue the next two passport Stamps - the earth from outer space, and crashing wave stamps are next. Topics in the Treasure Hunt will be Paleontology, Meteorology ( including LIVE weather cams ), Geology, Geography and Astronomy. The chat room will provide a live link to the location on the Web where they can find the answers. We ask that when they return back to the chat room to post their answers, they include in their answer the URL location where they found the answer. This establishes a higher level of technology literacy while they are having fun learning. It would be a fine idea to have them actually write down the URLs they are using - and what agency they go to - in their passport in the notes pages. During the week on the main Camp web site, we will be adding Channel Ecology resources, so check in and see the new updates. We are also adding resources in Paleontology and Geology to help your kids answer the passport questions for Expedition V and VI, and will include links in the treasure hunt to these new resources. Site Visits This week we have a team of 2-3 out in the field meeting with teachers and students, helping the classes participate in the Treasure Hunt, and video taping interviews as they go. They will be visiting North Verdemont, Valley View, Oro Grande, Lake Arrowhead, and Highland Pacific - from the mountains to the desert, to the inland valleys. And in days to come visits are also scheduled for Baker out in Barstow, Oaks Middle School in Ontario, and Mary Buren in Guadalupe. If you would like to schedule a site visit this Spring - just let us know at camp@rain.org. It is a great way to take part in the digital video arcive of Camp Internet. Teachers Field Report We will be sending everyone a teacher's field report to print out, complete, and return to us by land mail - or all online at http://www.rain.org/campinternet/channelhistory/midyearreport - This is a data collection review for the mid year point of the program. Whatever your level of participation has been - please do take a little time and complete it and return it to us. We ask for your suggestions, and are measuring effectiveness of different features - and also want to hear what your technology obstacles have been. Please return these reports by March 15th. We look forwards to your feedback. Thank you ! Return to Expedition Classroom Return to Channel Home Web |
