Meet the RAIN Network & Camp Internet StaffThe founders of Camp Internet are Timothy Tyndall, Marcy Montgomery, and Silvia Tyndall. These Internet pioneers had the vision in 1991 to form a Internet based learning center through the RAIN Network, the non-profit organization they founded in 1991. Naming the Project Camp Internet was done to evoke positive associations with the wonderful wilderness learning experiences many people have had at nature camps - experiences that take us out of our daily patterns and open our eyes and hearts to the wonders of the natural world. Camp Internet is focused on exploring the science and history of the Earth - it is an environmental studies program, but it also includes the cultural influences that have shaped our relationship to the environment, and the scientific findings that are searching for ways to return to a harmonious pattern of living with the natural environment. Timothy Tyndall is the Camp Internet Director. He is coordinating the Trail Guides, collaborating agencies, content development, technology team, and assessment teams that are working to deliver an exciting learning program to our end users. Timothy has been traveling more and more lately as an invited speaker at conferences on International Telecommunications, Rural Telecommunications and Distance Learning. Most recently Timothy was an invited program leader at the California 4-H youth leadership conference. Timothy has presented papers to the National Research Council’s CODATA group, to the International Internet Society and International Telecommunications Society. Focused on youth, family and neighborhood level Internet applications Timothy has been invited to present papers in Costa Rica, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States since 1993. As the founder of RAIN, Timothy has been one of the fathers of public internet access, and is now enjoying nurturing Public Internet broadcasting as a new communication field. Timothy is the recipient of USDA Children Youth and Family t Risk Project support, USDA Rural Utility Distance Learning and Telemedicine Support, National Science Foundation Science in Developing Country support, California Department of Education technology literacy support, and Department of Defense Educational Technology and training support. Timothy is enjoying weaving together innovative content with innovative technologies to fully explore the Internet’s potential as a social change tool that can assist the global community in its path towards sustainable development. Marcy Montgomery is the Camp Internet Education Development Director. She is coordinating areas of the content and audience development for the program, writing grants, and bringing together the schools, libraries, families and afterschool programs that will be enjoying the Camp Internet learning environment.
