(CIRGIS) Meeting

Minutes, Jan 16, 2002

CIRGIS general meeting, purposefully designated as a "Strategic Planning Session." Ben Walterberger chaired the meeting and, via roll call of members with Memorandum of Agreements, determined a quorum was present.

Webcast: Using GIS in Emergency Preparedness

The general meeting was preceeded by the webcast "Using GIS in Emergency Preparedness," presented by the International City/County Management Association and sponsored for CIRGIS members by Ventura County. Presenters at that webcast were Dr. Jack Dangermond, President of ESRI, James DeWitt, former Director of FEMA, and Bill McGill, of the City of Issaquah, Washington.

Strategic Planning Session

At the general meeting's strategic planning session, we announced that we now have updated contact info on the CIRGIS website, and have a working plan to get data lists, metadata, and data links up on the web. We also went over the language in the MOA regarding these items and clarified that no signatory MUST provide metadata or data lists, but that signatories are encouraged to in order to increase benefits from the group. We also started a new part of the general meeting (something CCJDC has already been doing), in which we went around the room and learned about what everyone is up to. This "what are you up to?" premise is one of the reasons for participating in CIRGIS.

We also started sub-committees. If you weren't at the meeting but are interested in participating in one of them, please advise CIRGIS or members of the sub-committees. Here's the list:

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE:
This committee was created to better define the roles and duties of the CIRGIS elected officers. It will rotate through members year to year depending on who is an officer.

NEXT MEETING

Our next meeting will be in Santa Barbara on March 14th from 9AM - 3PM. From 9-12 we will have several presentations. 12-1, a semi-working lunch for the purpose of informally chatting with one another. This will also be the meeting where we elect new officers, so if you have an interest in one of the positions, or would like to nominate someone, attend this meeting!

On meeting schedules, we adopted the following:

CIRGIS general meetings will be held bi-monthly on the first Tuesday of the month. Sub-committees will meet on the first Tuesday of the alternate months, or at times to be determined by the sub-committee members. This will give the sub-committees the opportunity to have substantial information to report to the general meeting the following month. So essentially, just remember that on the first Tuesday of every month, something CIRGIS related is happening.
