Channel Island Regional GIS Collaborative
(CIRGIS) Meeting
October 11, 2000
CIRGIS General Meeting October 11, 2000 - Minutes
· Roll was called. 11 of 19 members (2 by proxy) were present. A quorum was established.
· City of Simi presented a signed MOA to the group.
· CIRGIS bylaws were approved with minor revisions.
· Goals and objectives of the group were discussed. Three primary goals were discussed:
· Data sharing within the group
· Data dissemination to the public
· Sub-committee formation
· To begin achieving the first two goals it was decided that we do the following:
· Have each representative bring a simple data list to the next meeting for distribution to the group
· Increase awareness of the CERES site and train representatives in its use to move the data lists to the CERES site in NSDI format
· To achieve the third goal it was decided we begin by creating two general sub-committees:
· A data committee
· Will look at distribution methods, technology, use of the web, etc. Will break off into new, specific committees when/if needed
· A grants committee
· Will investigate grants (like NSDI) to promote data dissemination and workshop training for the collaborative
· Will investigate educational grants to promote community data dissemination
· Volunteers to fill these committees are being sought
· The Regional Alliance for Information Networking (RAIN) offered a grant to pay for 5 hours per week of web development for the CIRGIS web page. The group accepted the offer (with thanks!) and requested that Resty Aspuria continue to manage the web page.
· We are looking for volunteers to present at GIS day at Ventura College on 17OCT. Anyone interested please contact Jim Kniss or Steve Palladino.
· It was decided to hold the next meeting in Santa Barbara at the Chase Palm Park building (directions will be mailed) on 16JAN01 from 10AM - 2PM. Lunch will be provided. We will be asking NASA to hold a workshop (subject TBD) and then follow that with a short collaborative meeting.
· The meeting was adjourned.
