Fortunately the 60 5th graders on board were sent to explore Frenchies Cove,
leaving East Anacapa to the remaining 50 of us. Half were on an elder hostel
tour with their own guide, so the rest of us made a very manageable small
group. Anacapa is spectacular right now! Fields of giant coriopsis are in
bright yellow bloom, as well as lots of blue dicks, gold fields, Indian
paint brush and other wild flowers that I could not identify. Even the ice
plant looked gorgeous in full bloom. In addition, the western gulls were all
in residence, pairing up and jousting for territories. Just to top it off,
we saw a large pod of common dolphins on the way over and a pair of grey
whales on the way back. Not bad, and the kids were stoked!
