Our local Gray Whales Count research project is going strong and the message below was posted last week on March 28.
For those not already familiar with the site, I urge you to follow the link to the Journey North website for excellent Gray whale information and migration details that incorporate the data collected here at Coal Oil Point by Gray Whales Count.
Stay current with local observations by visiting www.graywhalescount.org
Cheers,
Morgan
Hi, All,
It has been windy, but we have been fortunate to get some good Counts during the morning for the past three days. We had a record (for us) 41 whales on March 22; and we have had record numbers (for us) of sea otters.
We still have not seen a gray whale calf cross our Point, but it will happen soon. Maybe tomorrow.
In the meantime, here is the excellent report prepared March 26 by Jane Duden of Journey North. You can look at the entire migration and see how our Count fits with the network of observation posts along the route.
Thank you all for helping to make Gray Whales Count work for the whales and our greater community.
