CINC Whale Watch  Sat Apr 5, 2008. 

IPCO Islander, Ventura  1330 -1700.

 Hi Fellow Naturalists,

 

We headed out today aboard the Islander with Capt. Anthony and crew in
search of whales. The seas and wind were expected to be a challenge for sea
goers based on the day's earlier cruise.  In spite of forecasts, we
encountered a pair of humpbacks which were joined by 4 more humps feeding
and diving. They did several blows, showed their flukes and humps as they
made their way.   We broke off from the whales after 70 minutes. The wind
subsided and we headed with following swells to engage a 2000+ mega pod of
Common Dolphins.  We enjoyed half-an-hour immersed in this energetic
spectacle of splashing, jumping and surfing. We enjoyed several nursery pods
of an adult and 5-7 young dolphins riding the stern wake. Mike Sos
