[CINC] May calendars & training manual online, plus new gps on Speed Twin

Greetings, Naturalists!

The May calendars for whale watching, outreach events and day hikes have 
been posted online for your reference. Please note that your first 
opportunity to sign up for trips or events will be at our meeting this 
Tuesday night in Santa Barbara. You can sign up at 6pm, although the 
meeting will begin at 6:30pm. We ask that you initially only sign up for 
one day of whale watching, one event, and one day of hiking. A week 
later, on Wednesday April 23rd, you can sign up for more trips and events.

Captain Don's May schedule is currently showing short gray whale trips 
for the entire month, but at some point, as yet undecided, they will be 
switching over to longer blue and humpback trips. If you sign up for 
short trips that later gets switched to a longer trip, I will let you know.

Also, as of May 16th, the Double Dolphin will only be running 2-hour 
coastal cruises, not whale watching trips, but we will still place a 
naturalist on board.

And thanks to CINC Tom Flor, who donated a gps unit for us to use on the 
Speed Twin for Captain Don's. The gps and its instruction manual are now 
in the whale kit. Thanks, Tom!

Finally, the CINC training manual for new volunteers was updated for the 
January training and is now posted online on our archives page, as is 
the PowerPoint presentation that CINP Ranger Mike Morales gave on safety 
last month. For those who have earlier versions of the training manual, 
I have tracked the changes that were made this year (compared to the 
2007 manual) and have attached those notes for your reference.
