Just a reminder if you are interested in beach clean-up at Prisoners
Harbor on Santa Cruz Island. If so, please see below and contact:
p_haggerty at sbcglobal.netgrowmony@juno.com
Or if you prefer to do a beach clean-up closer to home, you can contact
me about Chase Palm Park beach in Santa Barbara or Emma Woods State
Beach in Ventura, where we will have CINC crews.
To all, as you may have heard, we have a new "Friends" group to
support our
Park. The new Channel Islands Park Foundation (CIPF) has their IRS
501(c)(3) non-profit status and NPS cooperative agreement in place, and
they are ready to start recruiting members, raising money and showcasing
the park..
The start-up board of directors has been staffed thus far by a small but
dedicated group of volunteers who now need help taking this brand-new
organization to the next level.
CIPF has planned a beach clean-up event, which is timed to coincide with
Coastal Clean-up Day on September 20th. The event is planned as a "dry
run" to help us gauge the logistics and planning required to make
this an
annual Foundation event. Friends and family of board members, park staff
and volunteers are invited to participate in the marine debris-gathering
day-trip at Prisoners Harbor on Santa Cruz Island.
I encourage you all to "Get Dirty and Make a Difference" on
September 20th.
Please contact the Foundation treasurer Peter Haggerty at
p_haggerty at sbcglobal.netgrowmony@juno.com if you are able to come. They
need to confirm by Sept. 14, so that she can confirm the Island Packers
reservations.
We look forward to working with the new Channel Islands Park Foundation!
