 They say the colorings are from Diatoms attaching to the
skin of the whales,  but the Diatoms usually attach to their
underside, thus giving them the nickname "Sulfur
Bellies."  I have seen a few that have had these
Diatoms on their dorsal areas before. Here is a link to an
