*ANALYST *
*GREENERIDGE SCIENCES, INC.*
*_Brief job description_*_ _
Greeneridge Sciences, Inc. places acoustic recorders on floor of the
Beaufort Sea, Alaska to record the calls made by bowhead whales during
their fall migration. Once the data is downloaded from these recorders,
Greeneridge hires a temporary staff to perform "manual data analysis."
Analysts look at screens of spectrograms and determine which sounds are
probably from bowhead whales, then process those sounds to determine the
location of the sound source, if possible. This season's work will
probably span November and December 2008 with some overshoot into
January 2009. Greeneridge plans to hire up to 15 Analysts.
*_Hours_*_ _
The hours are very flexible, and at the discretion of each Analyst. The
work must be done at the Greeneridge lab, off of Hollister Avenue, near
Fairview, in Goleta. During the analysis effort, the lab will be open
from early morning until late in the evening, including weekends.
Analysts are free to set their own schedules during open office hours,
and will probably be asked to work a minimum of 20 hours per week.
Attendance at a weekly meeting at a certain set time will also be
required.
*_Pay_*_ _
Greeneridge hires Analyst Trainees/Analysts temporarily. The pay is
hourly -- rates are still being determined but should fall within the
$15.00/hour range. Analysts are paid once every two weeks, according to
the number of hours worked. Potential Analysts are required to attend
one unpaid orientation session to evaluate their interest in the job.
*_Requirements_*_ _
Greeneridge is contacting the *Channel Islands Naturalist Corps
Volunteer Program* because of the interdisciplinary nature of your
environmental background and passion for protecting the marine
environment. This work is on the cutting edge of current research in
underwater acoustics and marine mammals so would be appropriate for CINC
volunteers interested in either topic, or their interaction. The
project also deals with issues relating to mitigation of impacts of work
on Alaska's North Slope and in the Beaufort Sea, so is of interest from
an environmental management perspective. Greeneridge would prefer to
hire individuals who are able to work independently, have a strong work
ethic, and have an interest in the topic.
