Adventure Pass Free Weekend for Visitors to Los Padres National Forest;
September 27 and 28
GOLETA, CA. September 27 and 28 mark "Fee Free Days" for visitors to the Los Padres National Forest in all areas where the Adventure Pass normally is required. The free days are in celebration of National Public Lands Day on Saturday, and a new national initiative called "This Land is Your Land" on Sunday. Both days honor and promote volunteerism on public lands.
The Adventure Pass normally is required for day use activities and camping in numerous recreation facilities in Los Padres National Forest. These include the seven most popular and heavily visited areas in Rose Valley, Figueroa Mountain, Pozo-La Panza, Goldhill, Ballinger, Mt. Pinos (snow season only) and the Lower Santa Ynez Recreation Area. The free days this weekend apply to all of the areas where an Adventure Pass normally is required except the Lower Santa Ynez Recreation Area where a fee will still be required. Other fees such as reservation fees and group site fees still apply. Visitors who accidentally use their daily Adventure Pass on a "Fee Free Day" may have it replaced free-of-charge through any southern California office of the Forest Service.
"This Land is Your Land" is a new national initiative to engage new Americans in volunteerism on public lands. National Public Lands Day is the nation's largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance the public lands Americans enjoy. The Forest Service will host a volunteer clean-up day in Santa Paula Canyon on September 27.
