Protected Areas which took place March 30 - April 3, 2009 in Maui, Hawaii.  
 
This event was co-hosted by Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine 
Sanctuary and National Marine Fisheries Service Office of International 
Affairs.  Photos, videos, press releases, and conference activities have been posted.

There are over 500 existing or proposed Marine Protected Areas around the 
world.  The intent for this conference was to gather marine mammal MPA experts 
and practitioners to share common challenges and solutions.  Managers, 
scientists, 
government and NGO representatives attended from over 20 countries.
