Greetings,
With charismatic Captain Jimmy at the helm, we had an enjoyable ride to and
from Anacapa Island Tuesday 6/23/09.
On our departure we saw two bottlenose dolphins in the harbor entrance, and
two blue whales mid-crossing.
There were forty-one visitors who landed on the island, including seven
kayakers.
One very special visitor: Fellow Naturalist Valerie Olson, who has been
involved as a Corps member since 1996, came to enjoy an off-duty day with her
husband. Her enthusiasm for our resources is always at work.
After the Channel Islands Live Dive program, a sea lion showed up in the
Cove with a large chunk taken out of its blubber. I guess we'll never know
the story, but the behavior appeared normal and active.
Highlight: Three youngsters Nicole, Daniel, and Shane completed their
Junior Ranger booklets on the island trip. They were "sworn in" back at the
CINPS VC and received their treasured badges, pins, and patches. Awesome!
Happy Trails,
Debra
