2 Mn (cow/calf)
63 passengers
Naturalists: Brian Resnik, Mary Bucholtz, Barbara LaCorte (PID)
Sea Landing was packed with cruise ship passengers coming ashore, and
once we got out on the water, the high winds made for rough
conditions. Captain Dave headed offshore where Mns have been seen
recently, but no luck. We then headed up the coast. After an hour and
a half, our patience paid off: a Mn cow/calf pair was spotted
breaching behind the boat. Despite a wild ride in the choppy waves, we
got some good close looks at the pair as they breached repeatedly and
in sync. Alas, no tail flukes, so identification will be difficult. We
had to head back to harbor all too soon, but the passengers were
delighted (other than a few cases of seasickness).
