I have been really sick with a cold and am just not making a fast recovery. Can someone take my morning shift at the Coast Guard Safe Boating Day. See the information below, it involves picking up the materials. Thanks, Joanna
Greetings!
Thank you for volunteering to do outreach at the 4th Annual Channel Islands
Harbor Safe Boating Expo this Saturday, May 9th. We really appreciate it!
Here is some information for you about the event.
Schedule
You have signed up for the following hours:
8:15am - 1pm - Joanna Guttman and Sally Narkevic
1pm - 5:30pm - Tom Flor and Warren Glaser
Joanna, thank you so much for signing up to bring the materials to the
event. Please call Shauna at 729-3275 to set up a time to pick up the
materials in the CINMS Oxnard office; Thursday would be best. Likewise Tom,
thank you for agreeing to bring the materials back on Monday; please call
Shauna to arrange for a time do so.
Parking
The event will be located at 4201 South Victoria, at the parking lot of the
Coast Guard station at Channel Islands Harbor. Parking will be available
nearby, such as the lot near Channel Islands Sportfishing or the dirt lot
across from the Coast Guard. Please ask a Coast Guard person (such as Henry
Goldman), where our booth is located, which should be near the NOAA
National Weather Service booth. Henry or other event staff will have a
table for our booth. But once you unload the materials, Joanna, you will
need to park your car in one of the lots. Sally, if you could please be
parked and ready by 8:15am, you could then help Joanna unload her car.
Here is a list of the materials:
2 chairs
CINMS and CINP pull-up banners
blue tablecloth with logos
CINC outreach kit
Protecting Your Channel Islands brochures
CINP newspapers and brochures
posters
dolly
You will not have a canopy so please bring sunscreen, sunhats and water!
The event runs from 9am to 5pm, so please have everything set up by 9am.
Probably the best thing you can hand out to visitors that day is the
Protecting Your Channel Islands brochure and the park newspaper. For folks
who take trips to the islands, the brochure gives the gps coordinates for
the marine protected areas, including the newly expanded areas. Likewise,
the park newspaper is good to give to island visitors as well; the pages in
the back entitled "Limiting Your Impact" and "Boating and Kayaking" are
important for them to read.
If people can answer trivia questions about the islands (or learn something
substantial about them), you are welcome to give out a poster. There will
only be a limited amount, so please make sure you save half for the
afternoon crew. There are rubber bands in the outreach kit.
During the day, there will be USCG vessel rides and helicopter search and
rescue demonstrations, and so you are welcome to take turns and experience
these features while one of you stays at our booth.
Tom and Warren: The event ends at 5pm, which is when you can begin to break
down the booth. Tom, you should be able to drive your car over and load the
materials once everything is packed up and folks have cleared the area.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you for representing
the sanctuary and park so well!
All the best, Clare
