I had asked the co-author of the study we received about the SCI scrub jay, Scott Sillett, what the counts were currently. His answer is below.

Hi Catherine,

?

Estimates in the early 1990s suggested that 10-18,000 jays live on Santa Cruz. Our recent work suggests that there are a few thousand jays. We're actively analyzing data now and hope to have a robust estimate by late summer.

Hi,

I am a volunteer with the Channel Islands Naturalist Corps and received a? copy of your study on the SC Island scrub jay.? For those of us who lead island hikes, we get asked how many jays are on the island? Can you provide a working population guesstimate for our group so that we may provide some kind of answer? Thank you for your help.

Sincerely,
