May 18, 2009 CX Numerology
11 Humpback Whales (weren't we lucky!)
4 Blue Whales (even luckier)
10 Dall’s Porpoises
200 Common Dolphins
3 Mola Mola Sunfish
Dozens of Sea Lions
One still-Beached sailboat on SBH sand split.
Many Pigeon Guillemot, Sooty Shearwaters, Cormorants, California Brown Pelicans, Western Gulls, Heron.
BRIGHT SUNSHINE on n. side of SCI and gray sky but mostly visible horizons elsewhere.
Hump, Blue and Common sightings toward SCI-SRI gap about 1 mile north of Eastern tip of SCI
Enjoyed Mat’s story on collapse of the SCI Arch and our visit to world’s longest sea cave (See, http://www.caverbob.com/seacave.html) although the luxuriant giant kept Condor and her jets out.
Carolyn McCleskey PID, CINC naturalists Sally Eagle, Marty Flam; CX Cap. Mat, Dave and Dennis. 15 passengers UK, Buffalo, NJ, Ashville, Santa Barbara on truly a day to behold. Thank you to all responsible.
[Late report on May 7 CX trip: 9 passengers (11 may have cancelled), wild seas, ashy deck, no marine mammel sightings other than a few Ca Sea Lions along coast to almost mid-channel), returning to SB Harbor with high plume of smoke creating appearance of active volcano.]
