Catherine Nelson Recieves Community Support at the Perfect Time

Catherine Nelson came to the Scholarship Foundation three years ago uncertain and unsure of her future. The single mother of a nine-month-old had recently lost her job when her employer of 15 years relocated to another city.
With encouragement from family and friends-and the support of the community through the Scholarship Foundation, Catherine began her studies at the Santa Barbara City College.
We could not have predicted, and likely Catherine could not have dreamed, that she would graduate with honors from SBCC and serve as commencement speaker. But we did know that Catherine was someone who worked hard, faced unfortunate circumstances, and deserved support from her community.
Catherine wrote to us this Spring to report her progress at UCSB:
"My first quarter at UCSB was overwhelming, but I'm thrilled to tell you that I made the Dean's Honor List with a 3.79 GPA! With your help, I have been able to achieve more than I ever dreamed."
