There is a secret place so full of grace and beauty... From the
liquid blue of the sky to the depths of the surrounding sea,
this place is a plethora of exotic sights and smells that have
been waiting for centuries for me to explore. Everywhere you
look, there is a lesson to be taught. Hear the whispers of our
ancestors, long gone...and see the generosity of God. For he
has bestowed upon us the beauty of Anacapa Island. And, as I
walk along its rocky trails, I feel close to God. And, I thank
him for giving us this island to preserve
and explore for generations to come.

When we went to Anacapa, it was great fun and an adventure.
Early in the morning, we left Oaks Middle School heading toward
Ventura. We hopped onto the boat and headed toward the island.
At the beginning of the boat ride, everything went smoothly.
Then, we got out of the harbor and started to speed up. Everything
got wobbly. We moved back and forth, trying to keep our balance.
The wind was blowing at our faces. On the deck, we could see
a terrific view of the ocean. Some of us headed toward the front
of the boat where we got a salty shower. Near the island, we
saw hundreds of dolphins. We could see them under the boat and
all around us. We saw the mother dolphins with their young.
When we got to Anacapa, we had to climb
up these stairs, which took us awhile to get up because of how
many stairs we had to climb. When we got on the island, we ate
lunch and there were seagulls keeping watch, hoping that one
of us would leave our food unattended. When were were done eating,
we started up the trail on the island. We saw many seagulls
nesting. Near the top, there were many small bones. We were
surprised to find out that they were leftovers from the seagulls
that took scraps from the fast food dumpsters on the mainland.
When we were almost to the top of the
island, we had to close our eyes, put our left hand on the person's
left shoulder, and just start
walking. When we were told to open our eyes, we saw the most
amazing view. The ocean was so great and the islands looked
magnificent. Then, we built a human pyramid. When we were done,
we headed down the island and hopped back onto the boat. We
cruised past some sea lions that were sun bathing. Next, we
headed back toward Ventura Harbor, which took about one and a
half hours. That was our Camp Internet field trip, which was
fun, exciting, and wet!!!

First, we arrived at Ventura Harbor and boarded a boat. When
we left the harbor, the wind started to blow harder and the waves
crashed on us. There were about 20 something kids that went
with us. Most of them were on top of the boat, where the captain
was driving. Later on, we spotted a huge pod of dolphins. It
was a great experience because they were very interesting. Before
we got to Anacapa Island, a crew member from the boat got a net
and caught some plankton for us to see.
After two hours, we finally spotted the
Anacapa Islands. When we arrived on the island, we walked up
some very steep stairs. Everyone was tired, so we decided to
eat. After that, we took a long hike to the peak of the island.
We saw many seagulls nesting. It was very cold because we were
at the top of the island. After the long hike, we had to come
all the way down. At the docks, we got to see some different
sea creatures like a sea star, sea urchin, and sea weed. Then,
we got back on the boat and headed back to Ventura Harbor. And,
that was my day at the Anacapa Islands

When we went to Anacapa Island, I thought it was pretty cool.
I really liked going on the boat and getting hit by the waves.
I got
drenched!!! The thing I really didn't like was the smell of
the seagull
droppings. Thank you for allowing us to come on the trip. The
waves
were way too cool! The dolphins were also great. Do you think
Catalina Island and Anacapa Island are about the same size?
Anacapa reminds me of Catalina Island. I really think everybody
enjoyed the trip, especially the waves!
