Camp Internet 1999-2000
I wrote a grant for Camp Internet Exploring California Backcountry. The scholarships were available for CTAP Region 10, thanks to support from the Oro Grande School District and The California Department of Education.
Camp Internet is an online learning environment introducing engaging and productive technology applications for classrooms. The Camp designs each yearlong, interactive learning experience as an “Expedition”, the teacher serves as the “Expedition Leader”, and the classroom is the “Expedition Outpost”. I participated in a teacher training session in Santa Barbara. This 2-1/2 day session introduced educators to the Camp Staff and facilities, walk through the components of the ten month session, test the hands-on activities, allowed me to meet the actual expert Trail guide in person, and take a field trip out on Anacapa Island.

The goal of the program
is to awaken the student’s minds to scientific and historical inquiry,
and to give them intellectual tools with which to make better use of online
technology and computers. Students will complete up to eight inter-related
study units; students and teachers will interact with guest Camp Trail
Guides who are professional scientists, historians or authors, expert in
specific fields related to the classroom learning assignments, and students
interact with students in remote classrooms.
Parent Involvement,
our Camp Internet Family Science Night was December 9th, we introduced
parents to the program and invite them to participate, we also participated
in a Science Fair Preview to kick of our School Science Fair.
My class also qualified
for a Field Trip to Yosemite National Park, June 2-4, 2000. Activities
included a visit to the Indian village Museum, a tour of the backcountry
exhibits, a geology hike, and plant identification hike, and a John
Muir campfire-side re-enactment.
